tonight sarah, lara and i went to see john waters and tammy faye at the castro
theater. john was mostly a riot and he never missed a beat, as if
reciting a polished stand-up routine. tammy faye was good, too, but it was
the sort of performance that leaves you with terribly mixed feelings about what
it was supposed to mean. she would laugh constantly at her own jokes and lose her train of
thought from obvious nervousness, spared no details about her personal life and
was very self-deprecating about it. at times she came across as really
wholesome and naive, and at other times she sounded like she'd really been run
through life's wringer and she knew she's only putting on an act. it was
all at once endearing, funny, sad, and stupid.
then i managed to catch most of stereo
total's set at bottom of the hill. fun. this makes five
times i've seen 'um, now. tomorrow night will be the sixth. wir
tanzen konzentriert, ich tanz' mit dir, du tanzt mit mir, ich du ich du ich du
ich du. leon and niki were there, and so was ximena. i figured out to nearly 99% certainty who katherinhand
is. not even having read the "carnation" entry till after i got home
from the show. a very familiar face over the past few years.
